Tibet Jolted By 2 Strong Earthquakes

(RTTNews) - Two strong earthquakes of 5.7 and 5.5 magnitudes jolted
southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR) on Wednesday, but no
casualties or damage to property were immediately reported, the
Earthquake Networks Center said.
The first 5.7-magnitude quake struck at around 10:06 a.m. (local time)
with its epicenter lying 32.4 degrees north latitude and 93.0 degrees
east longitude at a depth of about eight kilometers.
The second 5.5-magnitude hit 38 minutes later with its epicenter lying
32.5 degrees north latitude and 92.8 degrees east longitude at a depth
of about seven kilometers.
Zhu Quan, Director of the Seismological Bureau of Tibet, said the
tremors struck northern Tibet's Nyainrong County, Nagqu Prefecture, a
sparsely inhabited mountainous area with an altitude of more than 4,000
meters.
The region witnessed frequent quakes in the past years, he said adding
the Bureau had sent a team headed by the Deputy Director to the site of
the quake.
