A strong 6.2-magnitude earthquake has struck off Indonesia's eastern
islands but there are no immediate reports of damage and no tsunami
warning has been issued, officials say.
The quake struck at 6.51am (0851 AEDT) on Tuesday at a depth of 128km
and 295km west of the Tanimbar Islands and 383km east of Dili, East
Timor, the US Geological Survey said.
Indonesia sits on the Pacific "Ring of Fire", where the meeting of
continental plates causes high volcanic and seismic activity.
A 7.6-magnitude quake that struck Sumatra island in September killed
more than 1,000 people.
