TWO earthquakes struck within half an hour of each other in New
Zealand's North and South Islands overnight.
The first, a 3.7-magnitude quake at a depth of 20km, hit about
10.11pm (8.11pm AEDT) last night 40km east of Napier. It was felt
in Napier and Clive, GNS Science said.
Twenty five minutes later a stronger 4-magnitude quake at a depth
of 9km was felt in Christchurch. The quake was centred 10km east
of the city.
More than 10,000 quakes have shaken Christchurch since September
4, 2010.
