Six earthquakes hit eastern Taiwan overnight

Taipei, Sept. 29 (CNA) Six earthquakes, including a magnitude 5.1
temblor, have shaken eastern Taiwan's Hualien County over the past 12
hours, but no casualty has been reported, the Central Weather Bureau
(CWB) said Wednesday.
"Following a magnitude-4.3 earthquake that occurred at 9: 10 p.m.
Tuesday, five other temblors had hit the areas northeast of the Hsiulin
seismic observation station in Hualien County as of early Wednesday, "
said Kuo Kai-wen, director of the CWB's Seismology Center.
The latest one, measuring 3.3 on the Ritcher scale, hit at 7:46 a.m.,
with the epicenter located at 7.1 kilometers northeast of the Hsiulin
observation station, Kuo said.
The strongest of the string was recorded at 1: 33 a.m., with amagnitude
of 5.1, Kuo said, adding that the area surrounding the Taroko Gorge
bore the brunt of the tremor. None of the quakes have caused damage.
According to Kuo, Hualien is one of Taiwan's most earthquake-prone
regions. He advised people traveling in the scenic Taroko Gorge area to
