September 1, 2011 | 2:47 pm
Seismologists upgraded an earthquake that rattled the Newhall area
to a 4.3 earthquake from 4.2, and it was followed by a relatively
large 3.0 aftershock.
The main quake occurred at 1:47 p.m. and was followed by the 3.0
temblor at 2:35 p.m. The quake was felt across Los Angeles,
including the San Fernando Valley, downtown Los Angeles and the
Westside. Hundreds of people told the U.S. Geological Survey "Did
You Feel It" site that they felt the temblor.
Los Angeles County Fire Capt. Mark Savage said the department had
received several panic calls for assistance due to the temblor,
which was centered near Newhall.
There have been no immediate reports of damage.
