GENEVA -- The United Nations says the cholera outbreak in Haiti
has plateaued and appears to be diminishing.
A spokeswoman for the U.N. humanitarian coordination office says
the overall fatality rate is down to 2 percent from 9 percent
earlier in the outbreak.
Elisabeth Byrs told reporters in Geneva that Haitian government
figures show 231,070 reported cases and 4,550 deaths from the
disease since it began in October.
Byrs says donors have met 45 percent of the U.N.'s $175 million
cholera appeal for Haiti.
