Global Warning Realities Hit Hard*

Leonardo DiCaprio’s highly anticipated documentary The 11th Hour, which
opened in theaters to limited release on Friday, proclaims that “our
planet has reached the 11th hour.” Do a Google search for “Global
Warming” and 84,300,000 results are returned.
Why so much attention? What’s the truth? Is the sky really falling? Is
the world really coming to an end? If so, why and is there anything we
can do about it?
I have a theory about proponents of Global Warming. They’re green all
right, green with envy.
A voice deep within has convinced them that something’s wrong with the
world. Unfortunately, they just can’t bring themselves to accept the
truth that we’ve accepted.
As a result, their lives are dedicated to a cause that they believe will
help them to silence that inner voice and quiet their fears. When it
doesn’t, they can’t understand why our peace and joy in the midst of
destruction remains elusive to them.
The world is in chaos as a result of the lack of a relationship between
God and man, not man and his environment.
Instead of embracing this truth so that they can begin to repair that
broken relationship they would rather become more independent and
self-reliant.
The Global Warming activists are right about one thing. The world is
going to Hell and it’s all our fault. What they fail to realize is that
there are things far worse than having our physical bodies die due to
planetary changes.
I must admit that I haven’t seen Al Gore’s An Inconvenient Truth. In
fact, I haven’t even seen any advance pre-screening of DiCaprio’s film
either and I don’t plan to see it when it is released in my city. Still,
all I needed to know about these documentaries for this commentary I got
from the two minute trailers.
Here are a couple of quotes taken from the trailer for DiCaprio’s
documentary…
“We face a convergence of crises…”
Leonardo DiCaprio
"The best thing about the dilemma we're in is that we get to reimagine
every single thing we do. And so there are two ways of looking at that:
Oh, my gosh, what a big burden. The other way to look at it, which is
the way I prefer, is: What a great time to be born! What a great time to
be alive! Because this generation gets to essentially completely change
the world."
Entrepreneur and Environmentalist Paul Hawken
These two comments illustrate the problems I have with Environmentalists.
First, even though they recognize that our world is in chaos they
continue to ignore the real reasons for such natural disasters.
This week alone has seen floods and fires dominate the news headlines.
Fear is a natural response, but hope can be found in the comfort the
truth provides.
Do they offer the truth? Hardly. Distorted scientific facts and
half-truths replace the rock solid words of the Bible.
Second, they have replaced the worship of God - - the Creator of nature
- - with the worship of the environment itself.
God created nature as one way for Him to reveal Himself to us.
Logically, one can conclude that He has and He will continue to use
nature to communicate with us.
Placing such a high value on the environment without recognizing its
Creator is the height of ignorance and completely disrespectful to God.
Third, they arrogantly assume that we are some sort of gods ourselves
who can command the stars to shine, the sun to rise and the seas to
roar. This belief is consistent with the “save the world” mentality.
They have become so arrogant that they assume the world revolves around
them.
Fourth, they subtly created a system of belief that champions freedom -
- freedom to change and choose how you want to make a difference. Under
the guise of “freedom” and “choice” and “community” they’ve created an
effective system that can be used to control entire populations.
In the near future, I’m sure we’ll be told what types of light bulbs we
can and can’t use, what kinds of cars we have to drive and perhaps even
how many children we’re allowed to have all in the name of preserving
the world’s resources and saving the environment.
Lastly, many Environmentalists like to talk about the “human/carbon
footprint” we leave behind.
The only legacy they should be concerned with is creating a footprint in
life that will lead them to eternal life with their Lord and Savior.
Now, apparently sensing that support for their cause is waning as many
people recognize these hidden truths, the message from proponents of
Global Warming today is that while humans may be too weak to destroy
hardy planet Earth, our actions may ruin the comfortable living
environment we need in order to thrive.
Ah yes, once again, it’s all about us. When all else fails you can
always count on Satan to devise a new strategy that appeals to our
self-centered inclinations.
The events that are unfolding before us through nature were foretold
thousands of years ago. According to plan, they will continue to
increase in frequency and severity. That is a fact.
Whether we choose to ignore that fact or not is up to us. Regardless,
there’s nothing we can do to prevent the inevitable destiny of this
planet although the destiny of our souls is still up for grabs.
What we can do is search our hearts and make sure it belongs to our Lord
Jesus Christ. Then, we can begin to pray for Him to have mercy on us and
withhold His judgment until more souls can be saved. You want to make a
difference and save the world? Start by praying.
I’m sure The Eleventh Hour will garner worldwide acclaim and capture the
entire Oscar buzz after its official release next week.
Let’s face it, if Al Gore’s An Inconvenient Truth can win an Academy
Award (one reporter from The Arizona Republic called it “a movie that
was essentially a filmed PowerPoint presentation”) then a documentary by
a charismatic, young, good-looking Hollywood actor is a shoe-in.
Leo was right when he said “we face a convergence of crises.” Only 21st
century man could mix ignorance with arrogance and create this recipe
for disaster. It’s a dish that could only be served during times like
this. Ironically, this is one disaster that’s definitely man-made.
Here’s An Inconvenient Truth for you - - Yes, the sky is falling! Yes,
the world - - as we know it - - is coming to an end! Yes, it’s because
of us! No, there’s nothing we can do to stop it.
It’s truly The 11th Hour for mankind, but at risk is something more
precious and valuable than the tallest grass, deepest oceans, highest
mountains and bluest skies.
Will you choose to save your soul or save your planet?
Take heed of God’s global warning.
