A SEVERE weather alert has been issued for much of NSW, with
forecasters warning of large hailstones, heavy rain and flash
flooding.
People living along the NSW coastline were given a severe
thunderstorm warning by the Bureau of Meteorology this afternoon.
Large hailstones, heavy rainfall and flash flooding are expected
to lash the state over several hours on Sunday afternoon, with
Coffs Harbour, Port Macquarie, Taree, Newcastle, Gosford, Sydney,
Armidale, Orange and Tamworth among the places likely to be hit.
The State Emergency Service (SES) has responded to 27 calls
throughout NSW.
"Most of those were leaky roofs, a couple of trees and branches
falling, but mostly minor damage," SES spokesman Phil Campbell
said.
Up to 100 millimetres of rain has been forecast to hit Sydney and
the Hunter region on Monday and this could cause some localised
flash flooding, Mr Campbell said.
The SES is asking people to clean out their gutters and avoid
floodwaters when driving.
