At least 31 people were reported injured in a 5.2 magnitude
earthquake that hit Bukidnon province in southern Philippines late
Monday.
According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS) the
earthquake struck at 5:43 p.m. local time Monday with a depth of
86.2 kilometers.
The earthquake epicenter was traced in Bukidnon , 85 km (52 miles)
SE of Cagayan de Oro, 103 km (64 miles) NNW of Davao, 116 km (72
miles) NE of Cotabato, 871 km (541 miles) all in Mindanao and 871
km (541 miles) SSE of MANILA, Philippines.
Arsenio Alagenio, provincial disaster coordinating council chief
said at least 10 persons remain in hospitals due to injuries
sustained during the quake.
Around 23 houses sustained damages. Initial reports said at least
three shopping centers sustained minor damages.
“We are still assessing the exact cost of the damage caused by the
quake,” Alagenio told the Inquirer in a text message.
“We just had a hell of an earthquake, strong but quick, don't know
the intensity, Valencia have no power right now,” said Bukidnon
Governor Alex P. Calingasan.
Electricity was restored at around 7:00 p.m. Monday after a
blackout occurred right after the quake, according to a bulletin
issued by the National Disaster Center authorities.
