CLUSTERS of thunderstorms are dumping torrential rain and hail
over Brisbane and parts of southeast Queensland.
The Bureau of Meteorology has a severe thunderstorm warning issued
for Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Lockyer Valley, Scenic Rim,
Toowoomba and Redland council areas.
The bureau warns flash flooding is likely and there are reports of
small hailstones in some Brisbane suburbs.
So far the highest rainfall was 32mm recorded in 30 minutes at
Moogerah Dam at 1.40pm (AEST).
Storm cells will hit Rathdowney, Laravale and Maryvale by 3pm.
Energex said 946 homes at Ashgrove and The Gap were without power,
along with 613 at Fassifern Valley, west of Boonah, at 2.30pm.
There had been about 2000 lightning strikes across southeast
Queensland since midday, Energex said.
Police have issued a warning for motorists to slow down in the wet
conditions and not drive through floodwaters.
