'New signs' found of Syrian nuclear arms efforts

UN investigators have identified a previously unknown complex in Syria that bolsters suspicions the regime worked with AQ Khan, the father of Pakistan's atomic bomb, to acquire technology that could be used to make nuclear arms.
Officials told The Associated Press the buildings closely match the design of a uranium enrichment plant provided to Libya when Muammar Gaddafi was trying to build nuclear weapons under Mr Khan's guidance.
UN investigators also have obtained correspondence between Khan and a Syrian official. The Syrian proposed cooperation and a visit to Mr Khan's laboratories.
Details were provided to the AP by a senior diplomat and a former UN investigator. Both spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the issue.
