An earthquake has been felt in the Los Angeles area and as far away as
Las Vegas.
The quake rolled through Southern California at 4:53 p.m. Monday. The
U.S. Geological Survey said it registered a magnitude 5.9.
Clark County officials reported that the government center in downtown
Las Vegas was swaying. The quake also was reported on the UNLV campus.
It follows a series of temblors that struck Southern California over
the weekend, including a pair of moderate earthquakes that rattled a
desert area east of San Diego. Residents in downtown San Diego could
feel the ground rumbling during at least one of the Saturday quakes.
The epicenter of the quake was 28 miles south of Palm Springs, Calif.,
and 58 miles northeast of San Diego.
There are no immediate reports of damage or injuries from the
earthquake.
