Hurricane Julia upgraded to category two, Igor and Karl keep moving

HURRICANE Julia was upgraded to a category two hurricane late today as
it increased strength in the eastern Atlantic.
The US National Hurricane Centre (NHC) changed the storm's status as
Julia swirled about 725km west-northwest of the Cape Verde islands,
with sustained winds of 165km/.
The storm was moving toward the west-northwest around nine mph (14kph).
Julia, which was not close to any land mass, was expected to weaken on
Friday (AEST), the NHC said.
Meanwhile further west, Hurricane Igor was continuing to strengthen but
was still at category four status, according to the NHC.
It packed maximum sustained winds of 250km/h as it moved
west-northwest,at the same speed as Julia, about 975km east of the
northern Leeward Islands.
Dangerous surf related to Igor was expected to batter the Virgin
Islands and Puerto Rico by tomorrow.
And Tropical Storm Karl was expected to hit the east coast of the
Yucatan Peninsula early tomorrow, with warnings in place across the
area.
