Two earthquakes hit California's Central Coast in the last 24 hours.
The more recent earthquake struck at 9:54 p.m. Monday near Vandenberg
Air Force Base (about six miles northeast of Lompoc) in Santa Barbara
County. There were no reports of damage from the 3.7 temblor, but the
U.S. Geological Survey said it was felt in the area.
Hours earlier, another earthquake hit Aromas (about 15 miles north of
Salinas), a town on the border of Monterey and San Benito counties. The
3.9 quake occurred around 5:10 p.m.
The quake was felt over a large area, according the USGS. Hundreds of
people reported the shaking in cities as far away as Watsonville,
Gilroy, Morgan Hill and San Jose as well as further north in Redwood
City and Santa Cruz.
