Japan: Strong Earthquake Strikes East of Honshu
CORAL GABLES (LALATE) – A strong Japan earthquake 2012 today
struck east of Honshu. The Japan earthquake today May 8, 2012 did
not prompt a tsunami alert, officials confirm to news. The quake
struck in the late evening hours. No reports of injuries have yet
to be detailed by local news.
USGS reports to news that a 5.0 magnitude earthquake today struck
Japan. The quake today erupted shortly after 7 pm local time. The
quake, however, had virtually no depth. USGS indicates to news
that the quake registered only six miles below sea level. As a
result, the quake could be felt in sections of Japan to the west.
The quake was centered off the east coast of Honshu. That same
region has systemically produced strong quakes roughly one weekly
basis this spring. Today’s quake, however, was roughly two hundred
miles east of the town of Iwaki in Honshu, officials tells news.
The quake was roughly two hundred thirty miles east of Fukushima
as well.
USGS indicates to news that the quake was approximately two
hundred miles east of Sendai and three hundred miles northeast of
Tokyo. No reports of damage have yet to be detailed by local news.
Just days ago, another Japan quake erupted fifty-four miles east
of Morioka, Honshu. USGS indicated to news that the quake was
sixty-two miles southeast of Honshu town Hachinohe and roughly one
hundred miles southeast of the community of Aomori.
