Three Earthquakes shake northwest Lake Tahoe this morning

1:51 p.m. update: Three earthquakes hit Tuesday morning at northwest Lake Tahoe, but the Placer County Sheriff’s Office reported it received no calls about them.

Earthquakes of magnitude 2.3 and 2.1 struck about a minute apart at 6:07 a.m. just offshore in Carnelian Bay, according to the Nevada Seismology Laboratory. They were about 7.3 miles and 8.2 miles deep, the laboratory reported.

Then at 6:27 a.m. there was a magnitude 1.1 earthquake about 6 miles deep a little farther out into Lake Tahoe, the laboratory reported.

All three quakes were reviewed by a seismologist.

The United States Geological Survey web site reports there was an earthquake of magnitude 2.1 under northwest Lake Tahoe this morning.

The Placer County Sheriff's Office has not received any reports of anyone feeling the earthquake. The report has not been reviewed by a seismologist.

The quake was reported at 6:07 a.m. about 10 miles southeast of Truckee. It is reported to be at a depth of 5.3 miles.
