Canada: 2 tornadoes strike communities near Montreal, heavy property damage reported

MONTREAL - Environment Canada says two tornadoes struck communities near Montreal on Friday night.
The agency says a low-scale F-0 tornado first struck the rural community of Brownsburg Chatham, damaging farm sheds and equipment around 8 p.m.
A second stronger F-1 twister touched down in the town of Saint Benoit de Mirabel 15 minutes later, uprooting trees and causing heavy property damage.
Environment Canada meteorologist Rene Heroux says no people appear to have been injured.
He says the F-0 twister had winds reaching 120 kilometres per hour while the second tornado saw gusts of 150 kilometres per hour.
Heroux says the damage from the severe weather includes shattered windows, smashed-in roofs and overturned cars.
He says up to seven homes in Saint Benoit de Mirabel and ten farming areas in Brownsburg Chatham felt the worst of the twisters.
Numerous power outages were reported as power lines were felled to the ground.
The tornadoes are the first of the season. Quebec typically sees about six twisters a year, usually between June and August.
