Casualties have been reported after a 5.2-magnitude earthquake hit a
town east of the Algerian capital on Friday.
Reports quoting eyewitnesses said several people were killed and dozens
of others injured when the earthquake hit the town of Beni Yellman, 300
kilometers east of Algiers.
Many buildings collapsed, prompting some residents to jump out of them
in panic.
In 2003, Algeria's worst earthquake in two decades, measuring 6.7 on
the Richter scale, struck the northern region, killing more than 1000
people.
