Raging Tornadoes and Severe Storms tear through Ohio, Pennsylvania, and mid west

June 07, 2010 07:54 PM EDT

Storms in the form of straight winds and tornadoes in Milbury and Toledo Ohio have flattened houses, destroyed businesses, and killed people and are headed to the North East.  Today  At least 17 people have been hospitalized in northwest Ohio. Two adults and two children are hospitalized and Mercy Hospital says eight people were treated and released.

Storms have killed at lease five people in Ohio and many other injured and hurting across Ohio, Pennsylvannia, Illinois, and Michigan.  The same storm that has injured and killed so many is headed toward the North East including Washington D.C.

Tornadoes packing winds capable of flattening houses, businesses, and burying people in the very homes they live in and go to for safety are careening across the mid west Sunday and are on the way to the North East.

At least five people are dead as of this writing including a child.  Police and fire rescue are searching through the rubble looking for victims.  Police Chief Mark Hummer surveyed the damage by air.  He says, "He estimated a 7-mile path of destruction about 100 yards wide."  Hummer called it "A war zone." He also reported that a police and emergency medical building was a total loss.

The storm knocked out 911 services to some towns, and so the devastation may be far greater than is now known as even police vehicles were tossed about and buses.

A home in Millbury, Ohio was moved five feet off its foundation held by a washer and dryer connection.

Having lived in both Ohio and Oklahoma, we tend to become complacent about tornadoes, but having witnessed first hand the devastation these people are going through I can only tell you, when a tornado wipes out a town or a city, you have no idea where a home or church once stood as all that is left are splinters of wood and lives.
