Three dead as Second World War bomb explodes in Germany
A Second World War bomb has exploded in central Germany, killing three
people.

The bomb detonated as disposal experts were about to defuse it, local
authorities said.
Six people were injured, two seriously, when the bomb, which was
dropped by Allied aircraft on the university town of Goettingen, went
off unexpectedly. It is believed that the dead were all members of the
bomb disposal team.
Authorities had evacuated more than 7,000 residents so that experts
could defuse the 500 kg bomb, a fire department spokesman said.
A firefighter who was on the scene at the time of the incident said: "A
total of 13 employees of the bomb disposal team had participated in the
operation.
"We are all shocked. The defusing of a similar bomb a few days ago went
smoothly."
Bombs left over from World War Two are regularly defused in Germany and
rarely explode unexpectedly.
