GODERICH, Ont. (NEWS1130) - A supercell that swept inland from
Lake Huron Sunday afternoon spawned a tornado that heavily damaged
the town of Goderich on Sunday, killing at least one and injuring
numerous others.
Environment Canada confirms the twister packed winds of up to 250
km/h.
Images show downed power lines, trees and debris strewn across
streets, while witnesses have described cars being picked up and
thrown like toys.
Police said there are reports of multiple injuries, but exact
numbers have not been determined.
Radio station CKNX reports that downtown businesses, century-old
buildings and several churches lost their roofs and upper floors.
Police blocked traffic from entering the downtown core.
Goderich is located on the shores of Lake Huron.
