Auckland, Taupo

HEAVY rain is causing widespread flooding in New Zealand's west
Auckland district with firefighters being called to dozens of
flooded homes or garages.
The fire service received about 30 calls in an hour from 6.40pm
(4.40pm AEDT) today, with a total of about 40 calls by 8.30pm
(6.30pm AEDT), northern fire communications shift commander Paul
Radden told AAP.
The flooding was centred on the west Auckland suburbs of Glen Eden
and Titirangi.
Fire trucks had been called in from other areas, with about 14
deployed to help mop up the water at its peak, Mr Radden said.
Two specialist trucks were also draining water from properties.
Meanwhile, a creek had overflowed in Taupo flooding two to three
houses in Nukuhau, at the edge of the residential area.
"There is also the possibility one house has become a bit unstable
due to the slight subsidence, due to the creek now becoming a
river," Mr Radden said.
