Strong earthquake strikes off Philippines coast

A 6.1-magnitude earthquake has struck off the coast of the southern
Philippines, the US Geological Survey reported, but there were no
immediate reports of damage and a tsunami warning was not issued.
The quake struck at sea at 2.47pm local time (1747 AEDT) on Wednesday,
just over 110km from Davao city, a major city on the Philippines'
southern island of Mindanao, according to the US monitoring service.
An official with the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology
told AFP there were no immediate reports of damage and no tsunami
warning was issued.
