Strong earthquake hits Mariana Islands*

HONG KONG, Jan. 3 (Xinhua) -- An earthquake measuring 6.2 on the
Richter scale occurred south of Mariana Islands, western Pacific, at
4:51 p.m. Saturday local time (0851 GMT), according to a bulletin
released by the Hong Kong Observatory.
The epicenter was initially determined to be at 12.5 degrees north
latitude and 141.9 degrees east longitude, about 330 kilometers
west-southwest of Guam.
