Philippines: Strong Earthquake jolts Metro Manila

MANILA, Philippines – A 5.7 magnitude earthquake jolted cities of Metro Manila early evening today though its epicenter was traced at an island off the coast of Occidental Mindoro, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said.
In a text message, PHIVOLCS director Renato Solidum said the tremor occurred at 6:37 p.m. with its epicenter traced few kilometers off the coast of Lubang Island.
“Cities of Metro Manila felt the quake at intensity 3,” noted Solidum, while citing that the tremor was caused by the movement of the Lubang faultline.
Meanwhile, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) measured the tremor at 5.4 in magnitude. It traced the epicenter of the quake at 57 kilometers west-northwest of Batangas.
