Dear Parents:
Tonight’s 8th grade party is a tremendous success! Thank you to all the parents who helped make tonight a wonderful celebration for our kids!
On June 3, the entire 7th grade participated in a research-based and thought provoking presentation on the basics internet safety, the affects of growing up in an online world and healthy use of technology given by our 7th grade counselor, Tony Castellani. Students were very engaged throughout the presentation and posed many thoughtful discussion comments and questions. Feedback from students after the presentation was also quite positive. As we embark on another summer, students are reminded to be safe, smart, healthy and balanced both on and offline.
The Birmingham Bloomfield Community Coalition is working diligently to provide fun, safe and, most importantly, substance-free activities for youth and families in our community. This summer, they are hosting 3 movie nights in downtown Birmingham. For more information please click on www.bbcoalition.org (the movie night info is located toward the bottom of the page)

Hi:
PTO: As we wind the year down, and since we are not having any more PTO meetings, I wanted to report in this weekly that the West Hills PTO recently made a donation in the form of a Target gift card to the family of Amy Rawlins, Debbie Steaban’s younger sister. Amy recently passed away from cancer.
EIGHTH GRADE PARTY: Thank you to all the 8th Grade Party volunteers, I am sure tonight’s party celebrating the moving on of our 8th graders to their respective high schools will be fabulous. Marci Bloom-Vettese and her crew of volunteers have been working so hard to make this a memorable event-thank you for all your time and effort as well as to all those who donated items . NEW TO WEST HILLS: Remember, Kroger’s is starting a cash back rewards program based on use of your Kroger card. You need to register though by following step by step instructions at www.kroger.com. An email on listserv was sent out the other day (June 2nd) with all the specific instructions and necessary code, please take a moment to register. Our school will benefit.
BOXTOPS: Please remember to save your boxtops over the summer. It is an easy way to make money for the school. Always nice to start the school year with a stash of these boxtops to mail in, get’s us off to a good start! Thank you to our chairs, Lisa Brown, Ann Podolsky and Sarah Saltzman for your efforts to get the word out about this no-brainer fundraiser, and creating a little “competition” to spur the collection on! Obviously, a little competition between grades never hurts!
CLINIC: I know it’s the end of the school year, but we still need staffing. If you can’t make your scheduled time please call a sub on the list first then, if necessary, contact either Debbie Hack at ddh...@yahoo.com or Laura Silberman at lg...@aol.com. Many many thanks to Debbie and Laura for their organizing the schedules and making sure the clinic runs smoothly between staffing and supplies. We all appreciate what it takes to make sure there is someone there when our kids don’t feel good.
RELAY FOR LIFE: Listserv reminder went out the other day (June 4th), if you have some free time tomorrow please join our team. We would really like to have a strong representation on our West Hills Relay for Life Team (Saturday, June 6), please make sure your child has a permission slip turned into the office/PTO Box (lower right hand slot) so that he or she may participate if you are not going to stay. Any questions contact: Gayle Ellias at gel...@sbcglobal.net or Libby Kaplan at lib...@aol.com . Many thanks to Gayle Ellias, Gayle Elias and Libby Kaplan for spearheading this first time event for West Hills, and to all those who raised money for our team, and/or will be participating tomorrow as a member of the West Hills Relay for Life team.
SCHOOL STORE: Last day for the school store was June 3rd. Special thanks to Stephanie Stephans, who brought this idea to the PTO last time I was PTO President at WH, and it clearly is a “crowd favorite.” The kids really get a kick out of the merchandise available, Stephanie does a great job at finding those items kids want and are just a little different. Also, thank you to Linda Ross and May Yousif who helped Stephanie on many a Wednesday to make sure the store runs smoothly.
SPIRITWEAR: Again, many thanks to Stephanie Stephans for making sure we have the spirit, the West Hills Spirit! OTHER INFO: Mrs. Moll could use help in the Media Center merging the Pine Lake collection with the West Hills collection and then shelving-if you have some free time next week, please stop by. An hour or two here or there makes a big difference in the project.
Have a great weekend,
