Upcoming PTO Meeting
Please join us on Wednesday, May 22nd at 10:00 a.m. for our last PTO meeting and brunch. We would love the opportunity to say thank you to all of our volunteers, and give a special send off for those who are leaving our school. We will vote on the slate for 2013/2014, and celebrate a great school year. We could not have done it without the help of our executive board, our committee chairs, and our amazing school community!
We hope to see you all there!

7th grade Choir Field Trip to Cedar Point
We have received a few phone calls regarding the specifics of the June 1, 7th grade field trip to Cedar Point. Please know, this field is OPTIONAL for students and class points will not be taken off if students choose not to participate. If your child has another commitment that day, but would like to come and participate in the vocal competition parents may accompany their child and drive home after the competition concludes. For more detailed information regarding the schedule for the day, please contact Mr. Snyder (bsn...@bloomfield.org)
Social Media – The Vine app
Last week, students brought to our attention an app called “Vine,” which provides an opportunity for users to take short video clips (with editing options) and post them within the Vine app. Unfortunately, the reason it was brought to our attention is because some students had chosen to post/create inappropriate videos using other students, teachers and our school environment. We individually met with all students involved and contacted their parents. We shared with them the risks of posting minors on the internet and how to use social media safely and appropriately. (i.e. the Vine app asks users to confirm that they are 17 years old (which our students are not), students shared their: names, email addresses, where they were located, and inappropriate fictitious information.)
Helping our children navigate their way in the digital world is complicated and ever changing. Parents may recall we hosted a Cyber Safety Initiative last fall (Oct. 24 (for students) and Oct. 25 (for parents)) in an effort to educate parents and students regarding some of the dangers associated with the internet. Some of the student topics presented included: keeping safe by not sharing any personal information, keeping away from internet strangers, and telling parents or a trusted adult about anything online that makes them uncomfortable.
The internet can be a powerful tool when used responsibly and appropriately. Below are some resources that may be helpful in working with your children regarding the internet and their safety. Please take an active and educated role with us to ensure our children’s digital media/social media is appropriate and safe. If you have any questions, concerns or would like additional resources, please do not hesitate to contact the administration or your child’s guidance counselor.
