Subject: From a South African competitor in 1970
Hi there Brian,
How is this for a blast from the past. This may not mean a lot to you,
but my name is Andre Verwey and I am busy writing my biography. I was
researching the net and came accross your footage of the Nine Hour of
71. Well... at 6min 27 sec into the clip,
it is me, driving my Lola T210 being hauled in by the Ferrari. I
started the race from the pit lane and happened to be in front of the
leaders at that stage. The commentators did not quite know how I got in
front of the Ferrari. Anyway it was during that first hour that my
daughter was born and some 80,000 people knew before I did.
If you are interested, I would love to talk to you. I have been living
in England for the past 17 years and owned a company here by the name
of Gemini, producing Motorsport transmissions till about five years ago
when I also retired.
I am near Brackley/Silverstone and can be contacted on 01280 705879. If
you are still into the sport, we could perhaps meet up at the GP and I
could buy you a beer.
I am off to SA tomorrow for four days but will be back on Monday.
Kindest regards
Andre Verwey
