i have so much more room on the screen that i could use to see more of
the page without scrolling...

Yeah, definitely +1 on this.

I have a 30" screen as my desktop at 2560x1600 resolution, so the box
is not even using half the available real estate:

I don't normally dig into script innards (I leave that to the original
author to avoid multiple versions getting out), but this looks like a
relatively simple change to the script. I'll put it on my list for the
next version.

I should mention though, the current preview mode is actually also a
problem for the 7" display on my tablet netbook, running 1024x600 in
that it is too large. On the 7" screen setup when using preview mode
the bottom horizontal bar as well as the article options are cut off,
so I have to use the right scroll bar to see them.

Yes I know, I am the goldilocks of preview mode.

If there is a small/large toggle in the settings that would be great,
however the existing userbase with small screens will have issues if
the preview is made larger.

If you could actually set the number of pixels or something like that,
that would be brilliant.

If it is a setting which I can change manually by separately
installing the greasemonkey script, the info how to do that would be
nice, as I couldn't script my way out of a paper bag.

Cheers

Which preview script are you using?

One sets the window to be 100%--this will adjust to whatever 100% of
your screen is, whether it's netbook or widescreen. That's what you
want.

The other sets it to a certain number of pixels--this is the one
that's problematic. In the user script, search for the word "width"
and change its value to 100%. See if that works?

I am using "Preview Item (Click button or headline, Ctrl + click to

As you suggested, I installed the above script via greasemonkey, and
then did a search, not for width but for height. I changed the height
value from 500 to 900 and now it is perfect, the article previews at
nearly double the size, but leaves enough room at the bottom of the
screen to see the next few articles and keep scrolling down.

On my UMPC I will change the value to 400 and it should work nicely as
well.

I would also note, I was running the minimalistic skin, however I was
having an issue with lag when scrolling on both my machines, so I
switched to Absolutely Compact. I started using it however I noticed
very quickly that Absolutely Compact does not include the "entry
actions" and I really needed the "keep unread" option. I hunted
around and found a script called "google reader absolutely
customizable" which is essentially absolutely compact but with the
added ability to change what is hidden through the greasemonkey
settings.

If you could integrate absolutely customizable with better greader and
have it bring up the configuration page as part of the addon options,
that would be brilliant as now with those two scripts setup manually
in greasemonkey I am only using Better Greader for show favicons and
smart subscribe :P

A way to change the value of "height" in the preview script from the
options would also be nice.

Cheers
