Hurricane Irene has been in the news for several days now. We will are monitoring the status of Irene and provide updates as necessary.
At this point there will likely be changes in the intensity and track forecasts but Irene is expected to impact Vermont as a Tropical Storm. Irene is a large storm with Tropical Storm strength winds extending close to 300 miles out from the center. So even if the actual track shifts to the east or west, strong winds and rain will still be likely.
Winds are expected to increase during the day on Sunday and be the strongest overnight Sunday.
Rains are expected to start in Southern Vermont Sunday morning and move north during the day. Widespread 4-6” amounts are likely with the possibility of higher amounts. Rain will continue through mid-morning Monday. Flash flood risk will increase Sunday night, and River flood risk will be greatest Monday into Tuesday, any river basin in Vermont could be subject to flooding.
