How to install Latex in my new linux computer?

Yes! I did go to the usual route --- ie went to the ubuntu software
center on my laptop, searched for latex and what came up is a list of
editors. anyway I installed them but still the latex button on my KILE
is empty--- so i cant run latex?

probably I'd have to install the latex system by some other way. How?

Hash: SHA1

texlive-latex-base: Basic LaTeX packages
texlive-latex-extra: LaTeX supplementary packages
texlive-latex-recommended: LaTeX recommended packages
texlive-latex3: LaTeX3 packages

You should get at least the base, but install the recommended and extra
if some packages you need are missing (such as, e.g. beamer). The first
three also have a corresponding -doc package

In the future, you try finding software at the command line using
something like line:

$ apt-cache search latex
