From the
NWS:
"Forecasters from the
National Weather Service in New York City conduct storm spotter training
sessions each year to help prepare spotters for the upcoming severe weather
season. The training sessions are typically about three hours long and cover
fundamental information that every spotter needs to know, with a focus on
safety, identification of key weather features and proper reporting
procedures.
All NWS Trained Spotters
are required, by the NWS New York, NY, to retrain at least once every 3 years.
If you know of others
looking to become SKYWARN Spotters and assist the NWS in their mission to
protect lives and property, please send this this info. There is no requirement
that SKYWARN Spotters also be amateur radio operators (over 40% of the 300,000
Spotter are though). All are welcome to attend SKYWARN Spotter Training Class,
anywhere in the area. This and all local SKYWARN Spotter training classes are
offered FREE of Charge by the NWS, taught by a Staff Meteorologist and you do
not need to reside in the County in which the Class is held, or even the County
Warning Area of the NWS New York NY.
