There will be a multi-media
presentation on all aspects of SKYWARN at the 10-70 Repeater Association's
Monthly Meeting on Wednesday, evening November 4 2009 starting at 7:30PM.
Included in the presentation will be information on several recent Severe
Weather events in the greater Bergen-Passaic County area, accompanied with data
from actual post-Storm Surveys done at the request of the NWS,
including photos of storm damage as submitted to the NWS as ground truth
verifications of severe weather.
Additional items to be
included will be recorded audio excerpts from active SKYWARN Nets, a new
video, made at the recent NWS Upton NY Open House event, showing on-duty staff
in the process of issuing severe weather warnings for Bergen County and other
areas (this took place on Aug 2 2009) and a complete and in-depth look at how
SKYWARN operates and is organized across the country with its over 260,000 NWS
trained SKYWARN Spotters, both with amateur radio support and well as with other
means of direct communication methodologies from the field directly to an
on-duty NWS meteorologist in times of developing or occurring severe
weather.
The 1070 Repeater
Association notes that all are invited to attend, be they current SKYWARN
Spotters, amateur radio operators or not. Anyone interested in learning more
about the SKYWARN Program is invited and encouraged to attend. Please pass this
information along to others who might be interested in learning more about
SKYWARN.
A question and answer
period on SKYWARN and related matters will follow the
presentation.
