With what seems a very
timely release date of today ( October 15), NOAA and the NWS have
issued the initial 2009-10 Season Winter Weather Outlook (FYI...there is a
Winter Weather Advisory now in effect for parts of the ARRL NNJ Section thru
Friday AM, with possible mixed precipitation types also being forecasted for
areas above 500 ASL)
Northeast: Equal chances for above-, near-, or below-normal
temperatures and precipitation. Winter weather in this region is often driven
not by El Niño but by weather patterns over the northern Atlantic Ocean and
Arctic, such as the North Atlantic Oscillation. These patterns are often more
short-term, and are generally predictable only a week or so in advance.
