FYI, in connection with what we are currently highlighting, both on the BergenSkywarn Website as well as on our weekly SKYWARN Drill and Training Nets (each Monday evening at 10:00 PM local time on the W2PQG amateur radio repeater (146.700 Mhz, Neg 600 Khz Input Offset, PL 141.3 - Note PL normally not required during SKYWARN Drills and Activations), for National Preparedness Month, that Preparedness is important for all, below is some information on an initiative from the NJ State Office of Emergency Management.

Also, please stay tuned for some very shortly forthcoming additional information on a similar Communications Alerting Program, (not to replace but to be used in conjunction with the NJ State OEM program noted below) that will be specifically for Bergen County.  BergenSkywarn will be promoting this additional initiative, in partnership and cooperation with the Bergen County Office of Emergency Management.

BTW, as September is National Preparedness Month, remember that more information on that important initiative is available here: http://www.ready.gov/america/npm09/

Information on READY.GOV is also a good place to start getting good information as well at: http://www.ready.gov/

From NJ State OEM:

"NJ Alert"

"The New Jersey Office of Emergency Management, the New Jersey Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness and the Regional Operations Intelligence Center are pleased to introduce NJ Alert, the State's new mass text and email emergency notification system. "

"NJ Alert is a free, voluntary and confidential emergency alerting system that allows State Emergency Management officials to send E-mail or text messages to cell phones, and other email enabled devices during an emergency event. The public can sign up for NJ Alert by logging on to: www.njalert.gov or by visiting the NJOEM website at www.ready.nj.gov and clicking on the NJ Alert icon."

""The capacity of the NJ Alert system allows the state's 'all crimes - all hazards' fusion center, the Regional Operations Intelligence Center, to communicate instantly to our private sector and critical infrastructure partners in order to provide timely situational awareness messages. This will further enhance our goal of communicating with law enforcement and homeland security organizations, other government agencies, and the private sector," added Richard Kelly, Director of the New Jersey Regional Operations and Intelligence Center."
