As you know, Bergen County (as well as Passaic, Essex,
Hudson and Union counties) are all in the County Warning Area
(CWA) of the NWS Upton NY, however, if you have yet to have your own up
close and fully behind the scenes look at an actual operational NWS
Forecast Office, the National Weather Service Forecast Office in Mt Holly
NJ is holding an Open House on Saturday September 26 2009, between 12:00
Noon and 4:00 PM EDT. (Note NWS Upton NY had
their Open House event in August, so this is your last opportunity during 2009
to get a tour!) (see the link below for a Virtual Tour of NWS Upton, NY
too)
BTW, driving distance to either the NWS Upton NY or the NWS Mt Holly
NJ is about the same from Bergen County NJ and both offices are similar, if not
mostly identical in setup and operation. Please note though, that NWS Mt Holly
does not have a co-located Doppler Radar tower (the system at Fort Dix and
another at the Dover Air Force Base are the closest ones to Mt Holly) nor does
the Mt Holly office do the twice daily Upper Air Soundings (Weather Balloon
Launches) that Upton does
Note, that if the event needs to be cancelled, due to expected Severe
Weather in their Forecast Area, etc, a
notice of such will be posted on their Website at: http://www.erh.noaa.gov/phi/
