Also, the NWS New York
(Upton) has added the Liquid Equivalent data to the already present Snowfall and
Ice accumulation data to their highly useful and well worth a Bookmark in your
Browser, graphical depiction at: http://www.erh.noaa.gov/okx/stormtotalprecip.php
If you have and expect to
use Snowboards (the kind for measuring snow, not for riding down hills), they
should be placed into their locations well before the event starts, so they
can become temperature acclimated. Also, remember to follow all the
instructions noted at the link above regarding the regular cleaning of their
surfaces, etc. Using a Snowboard or similar flat surface, increases the accuracy
of the reports, as measurements are not influenced by the depth of grass, etc
under the snow.
Should an occurring
snowfall event be somewhat significant in nature, we will endeavor,
just as we have over the past years, to call regularly scheduled
Snowfall Data Collections Nets on the W2PQG 2 meter amateur radio repeater
(146.700 Mhz, Negative 600k Input Offset, PL 141.3). Each event will be
evaluated individually as far as any Net activity is concerned, but any and all
reports via the noted Webform and Email address above are always greatly
appreciated (and needed) by the NWS.
