Bill,
Last time I was installing my Raymarine transducers into the hull, I used Sikaflex. A shipwright who saw me doing the work commented that “unless it is a two pack primer, Sikaflex will stick best to ‘raw’ fibreglass (meticulously cleaned with acetone first”). I had already used ‘Primocon’ (a single pack underwater primer) on the glass inside the cut-out and decided to leave it at that. Two years later, no leaks or problems, although I acknowledge that theoretically speaking the guy was probably right.

Bob,
Hello All,
Upon launching this weekend, Im getting a “No Fix” message on all Raymarine Instruments including the Chartplotter.
Can anyone steer me to a quick diagnosis?
Does the GPS unit fail at times?
Thx

James,
For some reason your GPS is not reducing the satellite signal to a position and communicating that over your network.
It could be as simple as a loose Seatalk cable connecting the GPS onto the network, or a failure of the GPS, or something obscuring the GPS antenna.
Start with the simple and proceed to the more obscure.

Hi Capt Guy,
Im not on the boat now…All I know is that my Chartplotter is RC 520 plus.
Are there different GPS receivers for this?
Thanks Guy,
So my course of action would be to first, check the connection to the back of the RC 520. If its good, I assume the GPS is bad, and I should replace it with the 125.
I gather the chart plotter can take both the 120 and 125?

suggest you power cycle the head unit and then check the status lights
Was easier said than done on mine as it was mounted on the gimballed radar mount 10ft above the cockpit and IMPOSSIBLE to see in daylight

If you have a 120 there is an internal battery (common button type) that fails. My original one lasted about 8 years. The battery is soldered to the board and can be replaced. Open up the unit, test the battery, if bad, use a dremel to cut the tabs on the battery, order a new battery with tabs (less than $10), solder the new battery to the remaining part of the old tabs, reassemble and your good to go. Or purchase a new 125, but I suspect that it also has an internal battery that will have to be replaced eventually.
