Just bought a new AB Navigo 9 VS Rib. Any advise on bottom painting?
The rib is white & would love to keep the bottom matching. Would
appreciate all info. Thanks, Shelley (Knotta Yachta 2, Oceanis 50)

Hi Guys,

Congrats on the new dink! I have heard folks using special dink paint that flexes with the Hypalon but don't know about white as a color. I do know that darker colors have more antifouling than white. Another kink is having anti scum stuff. Our bottom paint is Trinidad SR, and I think the SR stands for Scum Relief, but probably not!

We are Coinjock heading back North. Norfolk tomorrow and Annapolis a few days later. Hope all is well on LI. We look forward to seeing you next year in our fair city, or farther south. Have a great summer!

FRESH AIR works well -  lift it out of the water as much as possible tis free and an incentive to not let the dink float behind the boat too much..

I wish we had followed that advice BUT we painted the bottom with A/F paint and well as you might know the dink was in the water chained to the transom and it got stolen along with the 15HP Merc outboard  at 03:00 in Grand Case St Martin.

regards

David

David,

Are you insured? If so, how’s your claim going? I’m negotiating some offshore insurance at the moment, thinking “Pantaenius”, so feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Dan

I agree, David. Davits really help with this approach, though. I am in the habit of hauling the dink every time I return to the boat. The 473 is ideal for this approach, and the factory davits make the job easy. We only have 4 part tackle but I can still manage to haul up our huge 11' Apex, but the motor, 8 HP Yamaha 2 stroke, is light. I figure when I no longer have the strength to haul the brute I'll take up golf. Naa ... I'll get 6 part tackle. I can also run the leads under the pushpit rails to the primary winches.

Dan,

Yes we are BUT suspect that we will take the hit ourselves to keep our good N/C bonus.

http://www.towergateinsurance.co.uk/boat-insurance.aspx?notype=PPC&nocamp=PPC%20Boat%20Generic&nosite=%28SE%29%20Google&nosect=Generic%20-%20Broad&noad=boats%20insurance&gclid=CJzyisPnqLACFSYhtAodaG5KVg

The deductible and the increased premiums would probably make this not such a good long term strategy.

Still to investigate this though.

To my mind after this incident a policy for the boat and a policy for the dinghy might have been a sensible option to consider.

I have a set of Simpson S/S Davits http://www.cooneymarine.co.uk/pages/davits-traditonal.html  here in Scotland - the last shipping quote i got to get to them to Highland Fling seemed very expensive.....................hindsight being no good on the day well shipping them would have been a really good idea.  So i need to see if i can find someone who will ship them to the boat at sensible prices.............we have TekDek Faux Teak panels to replace the sadly worn and badly glued down cockpit teak so we can ship that at the same time.  Sadly the airlines wont except the Simpson Davits as excess baggage .

regards

David
