I have been overboard from the list for a bit over a year, and I apologize to anyone with which I was in a conversation last February. I plan to try to catch up conservatively and hope to return to being a contributing member of the list. For those new to the list who don't know who came crawling from the bilge, I owned 461 #122 from '99 to '09 including racing her newport-bermuda, then traded to a 54 to handle family style sailing, and per the dealer still have the only 54 sold in the Americas since even the model launching show boat went back to Europe. While being an owner going well back into the pre-transition Sail net days, I even donated and wrote what became www.beneteauowners.com as a completely non commercial entity, then gave the domain name up to a bigger commercial group as I needed to turn more to family.

For those who do know me, a short version of what happened is a nearly fatal Vespa wreck in Liberty State Park outside NYC, occurring Tuesday morning after Presiden's Day weekend on my way to work last February, followed by months of hospitalization, rehab, etc. from which they didnt think i would walk or see again. Sailing is a much safer hobby! I'm back and working to catch up on a year of missed boat projects :-) I  singlehandedly bent on my 64' luff full batten mainsail on Sunday pulling it out of the salon where it went to escape the hurricane, so at least some things still work and I still like carbon fiber halyard raised mains :-)

A first boat question I will put out is lifeline nets for toddlers as a backup safety device. Where to get some, and are there gotchas? I already plan to rig a low edge tension line so she can't crawl under, and passageways are one big question for me.  Any thoughts welcomed.

My goodness, Mark. Welcome back. I almost did myself in during my second Vespa ride decades ago stupidly pushing it as hard as the poor thing could go. Never rode one again.

My wife experienced a similar motor bike accident a number of years back during a boat trip out of Georgetown, Exumas... Fractured skull, etc. 

All is well with her now and I hope you are well on your way to recovery. Welcome back to the "family."

Welcome back Mark. Glad to hear that you are recovering from your
terrible accident.

I've been a part of this community, admittedly mostly as a lurker, since
the BOWS days. I must say that BOWS was much better than the Goggle
group. I downloaded a bunch of very helpful data from the BOWS
library. Too bad we lost that capability.

Welcome back - When my 9 year old was a toddler, we lashed her baby seat to the compression post.   Once she started to move around it got much harder.   I installed a netting that you lash from the toe rail to the lifelines, but you need the old style toe rail with the extruded alumininum with the holes - the new boats all have just a strip of wood, which is tough to string anything to.
