Many of you recall this from last year: the streets, cafes, clubs, community spaces, and bars of Durham packed with a concoction of musifiliac and curious all rolled up into an exuberating three days. This year has not started off too differently ... tonight Rob and I went to the James Joyce and checked out Regina Hexaphone, who performed outside in the enclosed stage/audience-picnic area. We missed the band(s) playing at Alivia's but biked over to BCHQ to catch the end of Push Pull and most of Hazerai.
Megafaun ended the night with an amazing set including audience participation in the form of stomping, three part harmonies, bells, and snapping. In any case, we feel lucky to be a part of this town.
Friday night is day 2 of Troika. We are playing the at the James Joyce around 10:30 pm, sharing the bill with
Citified and Shawn Deena. Feel free, it is free, to stop by.
Wear your walking shoes, cause there is a lot of great stuff going on Friday at the same time as us: The Future Kings of Nowhere are at the Duke Coffeehouse. The Scott Waite Debacle, Lam Lam, & Sawteeth McTweety & the Particles are at BCHQ. The Pneurotics are at the Broad Street Cafe. Sequoya and the Water Callers play at Alivia's. My mom's favorite Grappling Hook & Jews and Catholics are at the Ringside. Damn. I'm hoping that Rob and I, after our show, can catch Noncanon at Alivia's and GH at Ringside. We'll see how it goes.
Saturday is similarly packed: BCHQ is where we'll be. Some of my favorites are playing...the Midtown Dickens, eberhardt, New Dawn Fades, Bellafea, Opening Flower Happy Bird, the ex-members...
Have fun around town and don't forget to tie your shoes. Say hi if you stop by our show. Or if we see you at another show. The full schedule w/band descriptors is here:
