Greetings!

Just finished a large-scale ChoirOfOne project on one of Fred Gramann's works (Prelude on Herzliebster Jesu), and already I miss working on it - the 'soloist' tree is one of the most fun parts I've learned in a while. <3

I did originally 'partify' this for five trees and a choir, but then went the route of table soloists to more visually bring out the different melodies. If anyone has an interest in that sort of thing for a future Into the Forest, let me know.

A blessed Good Friday to all!
Caitlin R.

Caitlin, we’re always interested in bell tree with bell choir music!  You said that learning the “soloist” tree part is one of the most fun parts you’ve learned for a while.  That is an interesting comment!  You must have learned it to perform it somewhere.  Or if you learned it to make sure it worked, that’s impressive.  We are interested in hearing more about it!   Please tell us more.

Wow, Caitlin.  I counted 8? 9? bell trees at the end.  What an undertaking!  And those ritards!  How did you do it?  What an amazing feat.  Thank you for sharing this stimulating and creative way of doing bell trees.  This is a gift to bell tree ringers and beyond.

When I first encountered the piece and saw the LV lines during the "Ah Holy Jesus" section is when I wanted to play it in this format. And there's something about that top line at the beginning that flowed very beautifully on the tree - even the strand jumps fit very nicely. Every one in a while, you just find something that...fits you and it becomes a joy to learn and play it. <3

One part a click track with ritards, one part a lot of audio editing to make them line up! In the future, I may try recording myself directing to the click track to make it easier to align those sorts of things, 'cause that's definitely one of the trickier bits!

The sneak-attack trees was a happy accident - I couldn't figure out how to have a bell tree in frame while still being able to play the rung portions, so I rewrote the ending parts into something I could lift off of the table. After the first two parts were recorded, I realized the trees were out-of-frame until they were picked up and just...ran with it for the other two parts. :)
