Tyler from BIG Idea Lab has agreed to host the next meeting. We are
looking for a core group of regulars to organize an actual
hackerspace, and everyone's invited. Bring your thoughts and goals
for a hacker space to:
BIG Idea Lab
114 E Chestnut Street (Just up the sidewalk from Kulshan Cycles)
Bellingham WA
Friday, September 28, 6:30 PM
BIG Idea Lab's website is bellingham innovation group dot com, I won't
link directly since there's been Android malware on the site. I hear
the new site is nearly ready and that will be cleared up at launch.

I will be bringing/donating 5 Dell PowerEdge 745N storage servers and one
PowerEdge 650 with plenty of square-hole rails to go around. Anyone who
wants to take them off my hands is welcome to them.

A quick Google search gives their form factor as 1 U, so yes; the site I
looked at (an unwieldy pdf in .cz) emphasizes them as NAS. But you really
ought to ask

The 745N boxes are 1U rackmount boxes with DRAC cards and 4x 3.5" SATA

2003 on them, but I find OpenFiler is a much better/faster/stronger storage
solution, it's open source, and supports iSCSI as well as SMB/CIFS/NFS! I'm
dumping them because I've moved to a 24 drive bay chassy in an effort to
reduce my power budget.
The PowerEdge 650 was used as an administrative/monitoring box, but I've
moved all that to a VMware virtual infrastructure setup.
I figured I'd support bham hackers rather than trying to sell them online
or dumping them off at an electronics recycler.

I just installed and tested out FreeNAS yesterday and it was a quick install and easy to configure, based on freeBSD :) it would probably work well with the 745N's
