Is anyone still out there? I have been caught up in school. Last
quarter I had 18 credits and 2 internships. That just means I was very
busy. I graduate in 2 months and was wondering if anyone still wants
to still try and make this group in to something. I have a friend from
school who already graduated with the same degree, Computer
Information Systems, that is interested in a Hacker/Maker group. Well
Email or post here if anyone is interested.

I was by Metrix earlier in the year and asked Aimee if Matt or anyone from there would like to either present or have a booth at Linuxfest Northwest (coming up this weekend at BTC).
She gave me an email address to check in. I wrote, but never heard back. They may be fully stretched with the good work they are doing down there.
I was disappointed, because the 3D printing idea is really significant, depends on open source, and is not much on people's radar up here--compared with 3 groups in Seattle, for example. (Although Jigsaw Renaissance's page, while still there, comes up blank today. Last time I checked they had a venue, I think on Madison). And a lead speaker at the (huge) Los Angeles Linux gathering, SCaLE, last February was Leigh Honeywell from the Toronto hackerspace:
I came across a fascinating new use of 3D printing on the radio recently, printing new organs from the patients own cell lines. The researcher said it does get tricky when you have a complex combination of tissues like a kidney....I'll bet! Searching for where I heard it, I found this
--which is coming up on Saturday 4/30 (noon on 88.1 FM)
I too am a bit swamped for resources and time, but I'm still very supportive of seeing something happen here before we end up totally behind the curve. I'll keep on talking to people and spreading the word.
Ive been real busy myself, Just mentored the meridian high school
first robotics team and competed at the seattle regionals. They did
very well for a first year team and i was very happy with everything
about it. I also had a chance to show them my printers and hopefully
got a few of them interested in 3d printing technology.
I also just recently (two days ago) got a propane foundry and a
startup metal casting kit so im realy interest in getting that running
regularly. I figure the combination of 3d printing and metal casting
would be uber usefull. So far with my printers i havent tried origan
printing ;) but ive done abs and pla as well as some ceramic work. Ive
also been looking into organic circuit printing mixing stuff from Mr
Kim and jerri ellsworth's expiriments with glow stick chemicals as the
n-type p-type and general semiconductors.
Im sorry i havent had the time to realy dedicate to pushing the
hackerspace like i should. I tend to already have the tools that a
hackerspace provides, what Im missing is the people to work and talk
with about the projects.

I'm a student at WWU and I'm real into 3d printing. Unfortunately I haven't been able to make it to any meetings, but I'm doing some grant work to build a reprap and previously I build a makerbot back when I was in seattle.

That's one thing I'd love to get into. I just can't afford a makerbot.
Plus I am almost done with school so I need to concentrate on that for
now. I would be up for trying to get as many people as we can together
to sit around a table at Pizza Hut or something discuss the future of
the group. If we are all going to be too busy to work on anything as a
group then we might want to think about other groups.

I didn't know anything about it. I'll see if I can find the info on
it. If it's not expensive I might be able to tell my wife it's for
school then she won't bitch at me too much. Do you have a link for it?

networking with IPv6 at 1:30. Then Haskell building room 108 for
Drupal or 203 for another IPv6 talk. And then probably Haskell room

I just got back from Seattle. I dropped in on Metrix on Saturday.
They have doubled their space and now have the full basement.
They are working on increasing 3d printer productivity and dropping
costs. One approach is to 3d print a part as a mold master, make a
silicone mold, then cast in epoxy. They also now have a powder
printer and are experimenting with ceramics.
They have frequent workshops on introductory topics. It seems a busy
place.

[snip]
Metrix is amazing--I was just by their website again
Robert, it was good to see you again at LinuxFest. A bit late, I realize that maybe we ought to have all pre-arranged some sort of identifier for each other....With your comments about travel from Blaine I had begun to wonder if there was a space around Ferndale that would work. But recapping earlier posts, there is C. Porter (I'm sorry I don't know your first nme) coming up from Mt Vernon--so that wouldn't really help.
