Hey all,

here's a link to our region according to the UKUA.

http://www.ukultimate.com/system/files/UKU%20National%20Championships%20-%20Regional%20Structure.pdf

Haven't fully read it yet but it looks like we're in the North which
is in Sheffield.

What are people's thoughts?

Yeah looks like we're north, the calendar says our tourney has been awarded
to Spinkhill near Sheffield and google maps suggests we'll be playing in a
cow field. 8 weeks to prepare, are we going to this? Last year I enjoyed
playing tour but having such a small squad I never felt I recovered properly
while keeping up with summer league and I don't really want to be heading
into September looking at Cork and still have knee problems. Do we have at
least 12 people with the time, money and fitness to play this?

the ukua website is being rubbish for me.
what are the dates?

i dont see why we cant send a decent team over, as we stated at the start of the year that this was one of the tournaments we wanted BUG to take part in.

I want to go!

Just looked up transport, very expensive...

Belfast - Sheffield Doncaster with FlyBe is at least £100 (and its only going to go up)
Belfast - Sheffield with Stenline Rail and Sail is £80 (price stays the same)

Maybe theres a better airport with cheaperness?

Is there a confirmed date for this?

Other option could be to appeal to play in Scotland

yea there's an option to apply to join the region that is most
appropriate to your team, so we could appeal that it's much easier and
cheaper to get to Scotland via ferries. I don't think I'd be able to
make it anyway though so that's just a suggestion for everyone
actually involved!

Ryanair are doing return flights to East Midlands for £30 (excluding
all the little extras they add - like breathing!!)

East Midlands is about 50 miles from Sheffield - you can either
National Express it or hire a car.

So, Ryanair flights to East Midlands are £60 return (including baggage) and the National Express is £16 return according to me, so thats £76. Anything else cheaper?

The Edinburgh one would be cheaper - eg £50 return sail and rail, but its only a one-day tournament

pretty solid, and the north might be a bit easier, i think.

You think playing in a tournament with Chevron Action Flash, currently
seeded 8th in the world, is going to be easier than playing in the
Scottish region:-??? (I'm assuming Chevy will say they're from
Manchester.)

Also in the north - Leedsleedsleeds, The Brown, Sheffield Steal.
In Scotland - Fusion, Abstract, and ...?

ppps anyone considered car on ferry option?

ok has anyone email Si about entering this??
just seen on brit disc that the deadline is this saturday!!

BD
This is to confirm that UKU Regionals (North) is to be held at Mount St Mary’s College, Spinkhill (near Sheffield) on the weekend of 31st July & 1st August.
This regional qualifier will be for any team from:
- North West,
- North East,
- Yorkshire & Humber,
- Northern Ireland
Looking at the teams registered on UKU, I would expect Vision, Chevron, Man-Up, Leeds, York, Steal, The Brown and Trigger to attend but it would be great for some of the other ‘non-tour’ teams to participate as well (such as DUFFA, Carlisle, Hull or Durham).
One of the driving factors behind Regional championships is to promote smaller, more localised tournaments so it would be great to see some new teams come out for this one!
There will be three spots at Nationals up for grabs from this qualifying event – with Nationals taking place in Southampton on 21/22 August.
What I need now is for all the teams to contact me ASAP to let me know you would like to play. Please email me on [mailto:simon at ninety2ultimate.com] simon at ninety2ultimate.com by Saturday 26th June to allow for plenty of time to arrange formats and fees.
The plan at the moment is to run a two-day event but if entrants are low, this will just be a one-day tournament. This is an ‘Open’ event, so entries from Mixed or Women’s teams are very welcome (and second teams too).
I am also looking at running a one-day Junior event alongside Regionals (we have plenty of space at an excellent venue so it seems a shame to waste it!). If you represent a Junior or school team and you would like to take part, please get in touch ASAP.
Further details will be going up on the website as they are finalised. You can check it out at [http://www.ninety2ultimate.com/uku-regionals-north] http://www.ninety2ultimate.com/uku-regionals-north.Si

any point in going to regionals if you aren't intending on going to nationals?

I'm not saying BUG aren't good enough to qualify, just that Nationals clashes with All Ireland Championships.

ok this is the list of people so far for Regionals.
il be sending round a text and email asking for a yes or no definite answer to wehther you can go or not.
if the squad isnt above 10 men then i dont see much point in going.

from an email from Si East he said camping is available but hotels are near by and the event is not definitly a two day tournament. (depending on numbers)

so let me know.
il be in touch very soon.
