Just a Pinch of Salt!

Once Rav Shlomo of Karlin came to visit Rav Shneur Zalman the Alter Rebbe of Chabad. Hearing the news of the Tzadik's impending visit, each one of the women in the town wanted to take part in helping to prepare the festive meal in honor this illustrious guest.

And so secretly, each woman snuck into the kitchen and put a pinch of salt into the pot that was bubbling on the stove. None of the women knew that the others had done so, and after so many pinches of salt, the food was quite salty indeed.
When they served the food before the Alter Rebbe and his guest, both tasted the food.
Then Rav Shneur Zalman added a pinch of salt to his food and was about to do the same for Rav Shlomo as was his custom. Rav Shlomo stopped him, thanked him and explained that the food was extremely salty and it was not possible to add more salt!

The Alter Rebbe answered him with a story,"When I was a disciple in the Mezritcher Maggid's home I once sat at his table. When the Maggid gave me a spoonful of his own food as shirayim this completely took away my sense of taste for food!"
