Hello Everyone,
It’s with a heavy heart that I write to tell you all that we lost a long-time participant, Josie Gill, to breast cancer this past Friday. If you didn’t know her, she was a dentist in the Dayton area. She came to the BOW workshops every year in the early ‘00’s and she was always a joy to have around. She battled cancer for many years and while she may have lost that battle physically, she will forever remain a dear friend and welcome smile in our hearts with the Ohio BOW program.
Her tenacity and positive attitude has inspired us here at the Division of Wildlife and the Ohio Becoming an Outdoors Woman Board to create the Josie Gill Cancer Fighters Scholarship Fund. All proceeds from the annual silent auction at our workshop will now go into this fund. Monies from the fund will be put forth to allow current cancer patients and those recently recovering from treatment to apply and come to the workshops for free. It is our hope that a weekend at the BOW program will be a welcome break from the stress and weight of going through these battles that all too many of us are familiar with. So many of us have been touched by cancer in some way or another, it is our hope that you all will be able to help us bring a smile to the face of these strong women in the future.
