I am trying to use the image supplied on the Beagleboard site for
flashing Angstrom into the Beagleboard flash as demonstrated at the
Embedded Systems Conference in Boston, but I cannot get it to work.

I am pulling the images from here: http://beagleboard.org/demo/esc

After building the SD card as per the instructions, booting it, and
typing "yes<CR>" on the console, I get the following on 2 different
Beagleboards, including the one I successfully flashed in Boston.

EXT3-fs: mounted filesystem with ordered data mode.

We had similar feedback on the IRC channel today. I looked at the
kernel image I had uploaded and it looks like I had the wrong one!
Please try again and report your success/failure.

Anyone else notice that when running linux-omap (2.6.27+r4+git
2a3408be17f287fdb5809c9b6c68e7ad96d25b74), that the rest button does not
function anymore? Only power down works.

That fixed that problem.

Perhaps you can help me on another, related problem, namely that while
the Monte Vista image boots , it does not see the USB hub and switch
to host mode - so no keyboard, no mouse, no network. This same
hardware works just fine when booting into Angstrom. ( note: I've used
both a mini-A and a mini-B connector to make the connection to the
Beagleboard - no visible change).

Could there be an issue there as well?

Also, a Would Be Nice: It would be nice to have the option of
COMPLETELY reflashing the board: x-loader and uboot as well as the
uImage. Just to be able to easily put the board into a known state.

The instructions on http://code.google.com/p/beagleboard/wiki/BeagleBoardDiagnostics
are meant to do this. This page is referenced on http://beagleboard.org/demo/esc
as well, but without the recommendation to use the images to re-
initialize the board with x-loader and u-boot.

These look like known problems with the MUSB driver. Nevertheless, could you
try a few things to see if it helps -

Disconnect the power

Plug in the mini-A cable to the beagleboard and your self powered hub to that.

Power on

Sometimes the USB PHY (the TWL4030) gets confused and needs a power cycle
for it to start seeing things in OTG mode. The other thing to do is make sure
the hub is plugged in prior to powering on the system. Hot detect directly on
the board can sometimes fail for unknown reasons (see the bug report on the
Linux-omap list from earlier this year).

I've tried that, to no avail. NOTE: I can go the the exact same steps
with the Angstrom image and it works.
