Hi,

Jason asked me to create an new demo image for the people that haven't discovered narcissus yet, so here it is.

You can download it from these two sites:

Europe: http://www.angstrom-distribution.org/demo/beagleboard/Angstrom-Beagleboard-demo-image-glibc-ipk-2011.1-beagleboard.rootfs.tar.bz2
US West Coast: http://narcissus.angstrom-distribution.org/static/beagleboard/Angstrom-Beagleboard-demo-image-glibc-ipk-2011.1-beagleboard.rootfs.tar.bz2

Instructions on how to untar it can be found at:

http://www.angstrom-distribution.org/demo/beagleboard/

If you want to recreate it using narcissus:

1) go to http://narcissus.angstrom-distribution.org/
2) select 'beagleboard' as machine
3) select 'X11' as user environment
4) select GNOME
5) select screen, powertop, mplayer, midori, TI texture streaming demo for X11 and Texas Instruments Gstreamer plugins
6) click 'Build me!'

If you want to recreate it using OE:

1) following instructions at http://www.angstrom-distribution.org/building-angstrom
2) MACHINE=beagleboard ./oebb.sh bitbake angstrom-gnome-image

It's going to a bit tight with RAM on revision B boards, but it works beautifully on revision C and xM.

regards,

Koen

Hello,

I looked at this new version. I like it, /etc/fstab is very
interresting, but my kernel is 2.6.32, I didn't found the new 2.6.37.

Is there a way to get lighttpd with ssl ?

Thanks for Angstrom.

Hello Koen,

I'm trying to 'MACHINE=beagleboard ./oebb.sh bitbake angstrom-gnome-
image' for the first time from a Ubuntu 10.04 machine. I think I have
all my native packages required but am seeing the following error
(bison package related?). Any ideas on my configuration problems?

Thanks

dell-xps@dell-xps-laptop:/media/Shared_FS/Ubuntu/projects/beagleboard/
angstrom/clone/angstrom-setup-scripts$ MACHINE=beagleboard ./oebb.sh
bitbake angstrom-gnome-image
Updating bitbake
Executing: cd /media/Shared_FS/Ubuntu/projects/beagleboard/angstrom/
clone/angstrom-setup-scripts/sources/bitbake && git pull --rebase
Current branch 1.10 is up to date.
Updating OpenEmbedded
Executing: git pull --rebase

Using ~/.oe/environment to setup needed variables. It is recommended
to do '. ~/.oe/environment' and run 'bitbake something' without

Thanks Koen! I, for one, really appreciate this because I was unable
to get Nacissus to work... I'm sure it's something retarded I'm doing
wrong or possibly a busy time of the day that I'm trying to use it. It
never gets past one green check mark (even after 2+ hours).. anyway,
cheers for the demo image. I'm going to try it out soon.

Hi Koen
Tried out the new demo image and noticed the resolution is at
640x480, where the old demo image was 1280x720. Tried the "screen
gui" but that would not give me any choice for other screen settings.
Then I went looking for the screen config files in X11 but could not
find the one which would change the screen resolution. Should the
Angstrom setup be auto detecting the monitor? Looked in the Angstrom
manual but that did not help.
Any hints would be appreciated.

resolution is set using a boot.scr in the fat partition, you can do 'opkg update ; opkg install angstrom-uboot-scripts' to get a few example scripts.

As far as I know you have to do it at boot time.

mkimage is the command to use. It will generate a new boot file with
the prefered resolution.
That's why it is named a demo file, just a taster on what could be.
There are other things like filesharing you have to manual.
You have to look up the references to it.

Hello!

The latest demo does not have 3D demo applications. Can I install them and how? Please advise

Max

Can I just say this new image is just great. Everything is really
responsive and fast, especially Midori.

Thanks to Koen and all the rest of the team contributing.

Dear Koen,

can you specify the exact command to install 3D demo? I tried "opkh install libgles*" but new application do not appear.

P.S. Midori: works very unstable, often crashes almost immediately. Installed Firefox and everything is fine now.
