You can replace the board :-)
I've also plugged the HDMI connector while it was running (actually
did that several times) and never had a problem with it.
Are you sure it is not a software issue?
It is hard to say what is broken. Guess it is not a n R or C.

1080p is at or above the beagle capability. I doubt if the hw is
capable to do overlays etc and in sw it is much too slow.

remote control is no problem. Install lirc; See e.g.

There is hw around that already has an lcd (but not at 1080p). You
might e.g. want to look at a touchbook.

I see. Yeah, I wouldn't insist on a 1080p overlay, I'll take whatever
I can get 720p, or whatever else. I just want to have the cool effect
of hitting a button on my Bravia remote and having it show an overlay
from Beagleboard on the LCD TV.

Sorry, I wasn't clear. I meant take commands from the TV's remote over
HDMI. HDMI includes a signal called CEC which is used for sending
remote control commands and companies like Sony send Bravia-Sync
protocol on top of that CEC signal. I checked and it looks like lirc
does not have that capability. I am not even sure if that CEC signal
is exposed to anything on Beagleboard or whether it is accessible to
any software.

Thanks, Merry Christmas to everyone.

I know, I saw the large red text in the manual. But it didn't stop my
brain/hands from being stupid.

I'll probably just buy another Beagle. But it looks like everyone's
sold out! Digikey say March, Mouser says 29 weeks!, Sparkfun is out of
stock. Special Computing is on backorder. Guess everyone went and got
a beagle for their tree. :-)

I'll probably settle for doing HDMI output and being able to read the CEC data.
Merry Christmas,

Stop spreading this info, if Gearld says January, that means January...
If you really want one, some older Beagle B's (non ehci) are available:

It'll be rough, but I think we can work with the earlier ship date...

Rob,
Sorry buddy, I didn't mean to step on anyone's toes there, I was just
talking about what I knew at the time. Now that I've read Gerald's
note, I know about the new date. It's awesome that Rev4 is going to be
in January and I'll be one of the first customers.
Merry Christmas,
-Fred
